Does anyone know about paternity testing in Guatemala? Which labs do it and how much does it cost?

Hello there. I googled that for you. And I found two places where you can have it done. It doesn't say how much it cost. But ones is BioLab which claims to have a 99.99% accuracy and you get the results in 10 days. Tel 2506-3131. Ask for Prueba de Paternidad. www.biolab.com.gt the other place is Instituto de Investigaciones Quimicas, Bilogicas y Biofisicas at 2288-9372 www.iiqbbb.umg.edu.gt .It sounds like it belongs to one of the universities. Good luck.

Thanks so much! I did Google it, but didn't come up with that! The interested party will be eternally grateful! I hope it all works out. Since 2008 it is a Guatemala law that a woman can demand that a man take a paternity test and if it comes out positive, he will be responsible for helping to support the child. The question is who pays for the test? We will help the young woman if we can.

On my first try I didn't come up with anything either. Well I'm glad you're taken an interest in helping that woman. Hopefully the place at the university doest it for free, or at least at a reasonable price. Please let me know if I can be of any additional help.

I can say you about the USA. The cost depends on kind of testing and purpose for which you need it. For example https://dnasu.com/ provides different dna services. If you need paternity testing with a legal purpose it will be a little bit more expensive.

I don't know who here is responsible for paying for it. In the States, if it is court-ordered, the judge will usual specify who is responsible for paying for the test. However, if one party just wants to know - without a court order - they usually have to pay for it and then try to recoup part or all of the cost if they take the other party to court.
Perhaps it is similar here. Maybe try contacting an attorney who specializes in family law.

Just spoke with my wife's cousin who practices family law in the city. If the woman sues for paternity and the man denies he is the father, the judge will make him take a test and he must pay for it. Cost between Q1500 and Q2000

in guatemala when you can't afford a lawyer you go to the public defense.. called Defensa Penal and you get a lawyer to help you

'I wonder if the public defender option is any good? In America ...they are overworked & do minimal investigation. I'm sure it's the same in guat.
