Hi, Everytime I get sick in Guatemala I call Dr. Oscar ASTURIAS. He was trained abroad and he is fluent inEnglish and French. He does house 24/7. This doctor saved my life!
You can contact him directly to his phone 48603217. He is always available.

Dra. Maira Lopez is good and she makes house calls also. She speaks fluent English and Spanish, was trained in the States, and is much cheaper than Dr. Asturias.
Her office is at 6ta avenida norte #61 B and her phone number is 5632 9583.
She is very thorough and takes her time listening to her patients.

We use the dermatologist Dr. Manuel Antonio Samayoa in Antigua. He speaks English; 7832-4854, 3 Calle P. 13, Antigua. He doesn't make appointments, you just go M-T-TH-F 10-2 & 3-7, W 10-2, Sat 8:30-noon.

I called Dra. Maira Lopez once, she came to my house right away and I liked her. However, I was very ill recently, and when I called her receptionist did not speak English. My bi-lingual landlady called and was told she could not come to see me until after 5 pm because she was working at a clinic. Dr. Asturias never answered his phone, I have read that sometimes he is out of the country.

Hi Dale. You should call Animal Control at 800-GET-MOLE.
Just kidding. Dr Samayoa is the mole guy. He is very chatty but effective. He charges Q200 for the consultation and will probably charge Q200 per mole, at least the last time I heard.

You are too much, Paulo. Thanks for making me laugh. // I've heard that Dr. S has one set of fees for Guatemalans and one for foreigners. What else is new? In Costa Rica I had around 13 moles removed, and the total fee was about USD$40. // Well, we will see.

I am glad to make you laugh Dale. :) Doctors in Antigua are much more expensive than the rest of the country. If you want much better prices, go to the dermatologist on the side of the national hospital downtown GC. It is on 9a Calle "A" just off Avenida Elena, Zone 1.

When I get sick, I do not look for cheaper but for good results. Dr Asturias has 24/7 availability. It is true, sometimes he is traveling since he does CME in Canada and do regular volunteer work not only in rural areas in Guatemala but in Haiti.
Most of the time he practices in Antigua Guatemala and he provides house-calls immediatelly, no long hours waiting!
In Antigua there is plenty of doctors to choose, go wisely and do your own internet research.... this doctor is highly recommended by serious forums and international health organizations.

In Costa Rica I paid about USD$40 for consultation and the removal of some 13 moles. When I hear of a local doctor who wants in the neighborhood of USD$350-375 for the same thing, I say to myself, "Hay un gato encerrado." I have heard of doctors in Antigua who have one fee for locals and another for foreigners. Why not, if other vendors do the same? If you have a problem with my looking around, tough.
