Hi all My husband is being interviewed for a job in Guatemala City. We live in a great country but one of the main reasons we want to emigrate for a while is because it rains for most of the year with the exception of summer which is just amazing but very short and not that hot. We love the beach and the outdoors and for what I am reading about the weather I can see that it rains 80% of the year in Guatemala city??? Is this true?? I have spent some time there but this was 15 years ago and I cannot honestly remember... If the weather is not nice in GC is there anywhere near Guatemala City where the weather is nice to visit on the weekends or to live and commute from? I have two young daughters, what is life like as a young family of four...I did not remember it to be that unsafe as I am originally from Argentina..so I know what danger is, but for what I read doesn t sound good. We will welcome any advice as we need to make a decision and we don t know anyone from Guatemala. Many thanks!

Guatemala is the country of the eternal spring.. and I have been living here for 26 years for this reason. No winter, no need for AC. I live in Lake Atitlan, which is the same altitude then Guatemala city. And I can tell you that it is not raining 80% of the times as when the dry season quick in we have no rain for 6-8 months. And when the rainy season come it is not that bad it is just rain like in tempered areas. Sunny in the morning then rain in the PM... In Guatemala city it is like any big cities. you have to stay in the safe neighborhood.. the best are zona 10, 13-14-15-16 , I have never had a problem in all my years... and I have 2 daughters 14-16..

Hello there. As for your daughters I suggest You check out the videos on YouTube. Most of the english teaching schools in guatemala city have videos posted that can give you an idea of what school life is like among international teachers and students. When I was in the service I was stationed in many different countries with my family in tow. But from experience I can tell you that medical services in guatemala are excellent. To get an idea of the rental market and high rise apartment buildings in the best zones in GC www.inmoguatemala.com could be your best source of information. You have to take the State Department Travel Advisory with a grain of salt. I think that's how the folks at the US embassy justify their extra pay allowance for being stationed in guatemala.

Hi, My son lives just outside Guatemala City. They have 6 months a rainy season from about April through October. From November through March is the dry season. Now by rainy season, that means that usually in the afternoon, you get rain but many days are at least partially sunny. Also, the high elevation helps cut temps and humidity much of the year. Hope this helps in your decision making.

I have lived in or around Guatemala City for the past 23 years. The rains start later than they used to and end around the same time. I would say it rains less than 50% of the time and when it does rain, it is usually in the late afternoon or evenings. The weather has changed somewhat over the years with higher temperatures during March, April and May. However, as a prior person said this is the Land of Eternal Spring and few places worldwide have better year round weather.
