Hi, I am a 26 year old Mexican-American woman, I was born and raised in the US. I've never liked it here. After some recent traumatic events, I feel like I should go to a place that will bring me closer to the thing I lost. I'm craving for a simpler life. My life is too fast and stressful here in the US. I want to move to Quetzaltenango. I want to save up enough USD to purchase a small land with a home to live the rest of my life. But I have never even left the country for pleasure, So I have no idea where I would start to get this ball moving. Any advice, suggestions, and new friends who will love another American friend. :) Thank you.

How wonderful that you wish to move here. Best advice though is not to move lock, stock and barrel without coming here first to check out the different regions. Xela is a big City...might be too busy for you....sounds like Lake Atitlan might be more up your alley?! Come down for a few months, travel around, stay in Antigua, Xela and the Lake (the Lake itself has 12 villages, each one very different, so best to try and visit and stay in as many as possible!) It is a magical place; I first came here in my late 20's and kept on coming back and have lived in Xela and Antigua, but now live Pana on the Lake. There is something for everyone here. But for sure come and check it out first. Good Luck!

Have you got boots on the ground yet or still planning a trip? I was ready to move to Guate & decided I better go visit first. It was as great as I thought and even better in some cases. Im still planning on renting for a year or two before I start considering buying land. Some towns you think you will like, but you will end up liking others towns more. Each town/city is special, even the capitol.
