I am looking at Mexico and Guatemala for retirement. Can I get more information to compare. One thing I like about Mexico is the Lake Chapala Society which provides help to English Speaking expats visiting and living there. Is there anything comparable in Guatemala?

Thank you I am researching Lake Atitlan. What is the best way to get from the airport in Guatemala City and Lake Atitlan?

The best way is to take a private van.. It takes between 2 1/2 h to 3 h depending the times leaving Guatemala City.. Try to leave before 1500 to bit traffic. If not rent a car if you buy a local sim card and load internet than you can use Waze... and if you feel lucky it takes 20 minutes with a chopper... I do the road every week and it is not that bad at all...

There are 3 public shuttles a day that go via Antigua. These can be booked on line via ATItrans' website. The leave the airport at 6am, 11am and 2pm. They take approx. 4 hrs due to stop in Antigua and costs approx. $22pp.
