hi, I was thinking of purchasing a place in Honduras and building a beachfront home. My concern is. I will be retiring and am looking for an economical place to move to and I believe Honduras could be the place, so I was looking at some beachfront homes. My concern is how safe is that there and how expensive it is it to live there. Another concern is how far from town. Is this beachfront community and is it safe to travel back and forth and I was wondering if this community is gated. Would appreciate any feedback that I could get from any ex-pats that have moved their thank you

The expat community development La Ceiba Beach Club that I believe you are speaking of, has 24/7 security and is the safest expat community in Honduras. Traveling to and from phase 1 for example is a breeze and only 10 minutes from downtown. Phase 5 (all other phases across a 2.5 mile stretch of beach are sold out) has only 9 direct beachfront lots left and has the most tropical, safe and secure entry to this area with wealthy Hondurans owning the surrounding areas.
You can live a simple life here with $600.00 per month or live pretty well on still less than $1,000.00 per month.
You can have a gorgeous two story beach home built for as little as $90,000.00 USD
Others offer promises they can't keep. LCBC is a really cool place for vacationers, renters and owners living full time.
Cheers

yes thank you, I had checked that out, right now it's a tossup between Honduras, Ecuador. Or Brazil. I guess it will boil down to what My money buys and gets me. Lot size and square footage is one talks along with cost.

Visit LCBC and you can meet with foreigners from Canada, The US, Croatia, Israel, Australia,Chile and more. What a "family" the La Ceiba community had to offer. Oversized properties and simple residential properties are available. Deal with the owner/developer/builder has pretty good benefits wherever you are

it sounds interesting. My question would be that if I were to build a beachfront home. Could I use it as a vacation rental until the time that I do actually retire? I understand that they do have management companies in the area. Would someone know what they would charge to do this for me and what the occupancy rates would be if I decided to do this?

There is a property management company that rents out La Ceiba Beach Club homes for the owners.

25% of gross
This covers advertisement and cleaning along with picking up clients at the ferry terminal or the La Ceiba airport.

There's 3 "seasons" here 1. Honduran holidays 2. Cold weather in The US and Canada 3. Real estate

So, throughout the year can be busy.
Depending on what style/type of beach home you have can affect the $ your home earns

Could you comment on US expats being able to stay permanently or as perpetual tourists without official residency visa? Thanks.

You can receive visa extensions. Why would you want to go that way vs getting your residency? The easiest way (if you are purchasing a property) is to apply for "investor status". By investing $50,000.00 USD (can be used towards a home or a business) you can receive residency. Thus is the easiest way.

Or just simply stay here and don't leave. There's more than a couple of expats that have done this

Remember…..
Key word "citizen"

Hondurans having US citizenship going back to Honduras and having problems. Some of them are bad people and bad things happen.

Vindorr have you visited La Ceiba or the area? If not the first time you go there you will realize you will be like living on an island since most everything around doesn't appear so safe. Of course in a gated community you will be more or less secure but that will be your world. What if you don't find the other expats to your liking or you to them? It will get lonely and you will become bored after the 'adventure' wears off. Check my presentations, personally I feel Trujillo is a better option although more isolated.
