The Copantl Hotel is a good one .The others are pricey, such as Intercon, Princess . I stayed at the Copantl off and on for several years, Good food and bar. But If you want to be a statistic go ahead and walk at night. Be carefull.

Thanks for the recommendation. They also have an airport shuttle. Booking.com has a number of hotels under $70. Can I just assume that they are dumps and not worth staying in?

send me the names and I can help you. I have lived in sps for 8 years. For the money the Copantl is good ,not a 5 star but its very nice. There is one right above Copantl, very nice and the last time I stayed there is was about 80 usd.

Hotel Villa Noria is out of town near the airport and not expensive. Should be $48-$65.00 per night depending on the part of the year. They have swimming pool, tiki bar, indoor restaurant, mini market …..
You could take a taxi to some places in the city.

BTW…. this hotel has 2 bedrooms, per unit.
