Advise about Moving to Honduras

Hello! My husband and I have decided we will be moving to Honduras in 2017. We are going to just be selling everything, grabbing a bag and showing up. We stumbled across Roatan online and we have our sights set to live there. We will be renting a house in Honduras and then traveling so that Honduras is kind of like our base of operations. Is Roatan a good place for this? Such as flying in and out from there? We want to travel in South America, and just want a good place to call "home". How does everyone like Honduras? Can you give me some general advise? Thank y'all!!

I don't know Roatan well, but the only two international airports are in San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, so if you plan to be travelling a lot, you may want to be closer to either of these cities, on the mainland.

RTB is Roatan - International airport Direct flights from Houston several times a week, Atlanta on Saturdays and some Sundays, Miami, Dallas and from November to April, Air Transat and Sunwing fly direct from Toronto and Montreal on Mondays, Also, very good connections from SAP San Pedro Sula to RTB. United, Delta, American and Avianca have daily International flights that time out well with the connections to Roatan.

Roatan has many flights in and out. They have direct flights from Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Dallas from all major US based airlines. They also have smaller airlines traveling from the island to Belize and other Central America locations.
It is a fairly safe island with a large expat community. You will want to get to know different areas of the island before you decide where to purchase.
It is an up and coming island which has been featured in many "top 10" travel lists in the last few years.
We found it to be a prefect place for our future retirement and purchased there 2 years ago.

Sorry but you are Wrong about there only being two international airports in Honduras. As Roatan is surely one too as we have regular weekly flights from Texas to Roatan on Continental and flights every week from Atlanta on Delta and weekly flights from Miami on American and flights from California through El Salvador to Roatan every week not to mention daily flight to San Pedro and Tegucigalpa. La Cebia also has flights to the Cayman islands and to the states from there on Cayman airways.

We have flights direct from Roatan to Belize and El Salvador and to 3 places on the mainland of Honduras which also help service the rest of central and South America.
