Hey there,
I am a late boomer and plan to move to Honduras. It is too early to retire, but I feel that Europe, which is already going haywire, wants to go down the drain totally and I am reluctant to join the club. So I can jump ship now and live modestly or stay on the Titanic.... but the decision came so quickly - I am still a little beside myself.
I would like to get your tips, where to live. Regions I should visit first. The direct coastline is surely too humid for me. I remember leather becoming green, paper yellow and metal brown the last time I tried that. And as a nordic I am a sweater - so if possible give me ideas with some altitude. BUT maybe not too far from the coastal line as that's where the fun is right? I love fish, swim, dive and sail and hope to get to all this again.
I speak spanish fluently, some english and german as well.
I will come soon and drive thru Honduras. Maybe some of you are willing to give me a "roadmap".
Thank you.

Be sure to go to COPAN, inland. Magical and very friendly..I just back from there (I have been been 3 times now).
This is the only place I have spent time, yet. I am going to Roatan in December to explore that island and to play in the Caribbean Sea.
You can email me with questions - I am very drawn to that country.
I do not know much yet, but from personal experience - it is a lovely place.

When I flew home beside me sat two ladies from Honduras and I asked them "where to live" and they replied starting with "safe places are ..." one was La Ceiba, the other Copan. I will surely visit these two regions. I like the word "magical" in your description - I would love to find that. Thanks.

Copan is very safe, very friendly - the combination of the 2 Mayan Archeological Parks, Macall Mountain Parrot Sanuary and Jaguar Hot Healing Mineral Springs - creates a mystical atmosphere - it is UNISCO site, historic in nature...I love it.

We personally have fallen in love with Roatan. We were there in July and it was not overly hot. There is usually a breeze , lots of shade. I will say building our home in July heat was at times sweltering but I am sure that is the case most anywhere in July. We are all in with our retirement from the states, transferring our assets to where we want to be rather than hoping there will be retirement money left when we are ready for it. There is a great expat community and the island is very safe compared to most of the main land.
