" Hi, it seems you all have created a great community online. I''m hoping for a some friendly advice. My cousin and I will be in HK by March 29th and will be hunting for apts. I found this internet site with studio apts at a great price. (www.hk-studio.com) Have any of you heard of them before? are they legit? clean? in a good area? Please advise. I''ve never been to HK before, nor out of the US in fact. I''m Chinese American and can speak Cantonese, I''m wondering about the outlook of expat job availability. I read that the unemployment rate is at 5.8% which is relatively high for HK, is that true? I graduated May of 99 with a BA in Econ and worked for 1.5 years in the financial industry with variable annuities. In search of adventure and exploration of Chinese culture, I want to try living in HK for awhile. Would any of you have any ideas about what job opportunities would be available for someone like me? Would you say that because I am not coming to HK with an Expat Package, that I am out of luck? I am open to any type of work, my goal is not to make a lot of $$ but to be able to meet expenses and have some fun. Any info or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks, -nia "

" Hi Nia! Firstly, try this recruiting agency''s ""Michael Page"" web page, there are a ton of financial service jobs listed. Another website for jobs and apartments is www.asiaxpat.com. If you don''t have any type of xpat package, the cost of living could be extremely high! For your info, i''m not in HK right now! I''m actually in Canada. However, i am a Canadian born Chinese and also speak cantonese. I''m seriously contemplating whether I should go over there too! How good is your Chinese? And, can you read and write Chinese? Good Luck! "

" Hello Nia, I just stumbled accross this site & saw your queries. The market here for financial jobs is large, the ref to the previous wedsite for jobs should help. Cost of living is high. Apartments are plentiful, just need to work out your budget. Myself I just moved up from Singapore after 6+ years. Biggest impact has been cost of food & housing. Transportation is a breeze. From your timeline looks like you are already here. If you are looking for watersports to get into, waterskiing, wakeboarding, etc.. Post a msg here & I''ll get back to you. Enjoy yourself in HK ! "

" JDA, I''m definitely interested in water sports. Actually, I''ve been dying to play some squash/badminton in the Smithfield Complex close by, but I have no partners. :( I''ve been in HK just a month and a half, but I''ve decided I like it here and the only thing missing now is a social circle. Expat sites, it looks like, are my only hope! Are you in the financial industry too? I''m an editor with a US brokerage house here. I work from home (how cool is that!). Cheers, Gary "
