" I agree with Karron (except that my recent experience of UK hospital services was very favourable). First, you will need someone who is reasonably close to where you live. Hong Kong is not as small as it seems, and the traffic through the tunnels can be difficult. The last thing you want is to be travelling miles in the heat with a sick child. I recommend strongly that you forget ethnicity and nationality and look for competence and caring. As long as your daughter is not currently under care you should have time to ask for recomendations from people in your area, or at yours or your husband''s place of work. I fully understand the fear of the unknown, but like Karron, I have high praise for the medical services here - I have given birth to three children in a local Government hospital, used the accident and emergency services several times (including emergency surgery for one of my accident prone children) and the government mother and child clinics and have received emergency life saving surgery myself here. In the government sector, I would describe the services as ""no frills"" - very good basic care but forget about the pretty curtains and syrupy smiles. Obviously, if you have private medical insurance you will be able to use private clinics where time constraints and finance are less of a concern. I am told that the Matilda hospital runs a very good child health programme which you may like to check out. I live in Shatin so have never used it. I am one of the volunteers for expat exchange, so if you would like to contact me directly, please feel free. Gillian "
