We are moving from New York to Hong Kong in July with a newborn.
We have been overseas for years so we are used to adjustments but we are new to babies so we would appreciate information about baby items/hospitals in Hong Kong.
What items should we bring from the US what can we get locally in Hong Kong?
What's the most recommendable hospital and what or where should we avoid?
Thanks so very much.

Hello there, I am from Miami, Florida and i was a house dad for 15 yrs and for the last 3 years i have been living in Hong Kong. I have a 11 month old girl and compared to Miami it is much more difficult. Are you from New York City? If yes then you will find HK very similar but for me it has been very different. Baby medicine is very difficult to get or buy at all. Like baby Motrin or teething gel. Baby swimming diapers the reusable is very hard to find as well. Baby food and all the other stuff will be easy to find. Kinder garden and schools will be expensive. JW

Dear JW,
Thank you so much for your response. That was VERY helpful. We've been to HK a few times but that was before baby so we actually have NO clue what is and isn't available when it comes to baby stuff. I have a better idea of the right stuff to bring.
Do you like it there? I've actually lived in Hong Kong as a child for two years (my parents for expats) but again, I have no idea what it is like to be there WITH the baby...
We're based in NY but I'm actually from Japan.
Thanks again for your response!

Hello M. So you have lived in New York City? I find it much harder taking care of a child in Hong Kong nad maybe it would be just as hard in New York City. In Miami i lived in a 4,000 sq ft house with a yard , pool and walking distance to a play ground while in Hong Kong i am living for almost the same rent in a 500 sq ft apartment, 28 floors above concrete and the sidewalks are packed with people running into me. This i never experienced in a suburb. If you have lived in NYC then you might have experienced this and are strong enough to walk and dodge. I came to HK mostly for the experience and to learn to appreciate things i had back home. There is a nice neighborhood in Tung Chung near the airport that has grass and many parks with many kids and babies. That area seems very calming and easy to raise a child. If you want to ask more questions you can here and at my gmail bmiamiwai@gmail.com.
