yes, you can rent a room for 100,000 huf, you will need 20,000 huf for food, 5,000 huf for transport. Money will be tight, but you could manage.

Actually you can get a hole in the wall for 60,000 forints in the Capital but less in the country! A cell phone plan will cost you about 10,000 unless you want to be forinted to death by Telekom or other providers, and I think a month pass is actually more than 5,000 on public trans. Then there is health insurance, cable tv, internet etc. You usually have to pay water, gas etc, and ALL your bills will show an additional 27% that the Government gets. Where that money goes is a mystery in Hungary! Oh yeah and if you need to translate a document they charge you by the letter, yeah you heard right letter NOT word! I will not go on...this is enough bad news for one night! LOL!

How longdoyou plan to study for?

I have a very nice furnished apartment - fully equiped. But I have had to buy little things, iron, poatoe peeler, grater, knife, wooden spoon.

You need to conside there costs too. Also if you get sick - I must of spent 15,000HUF on cold meds this month from the chemist.

Wine is cheap, 2 liters 1,000huf

Your student discount card will help cut costs, I checked today it is 3,200HUF monthly travel pass for the rail ticket.

Taxi to the airport, if I ask a Hungarian to callone for me is 7,200huf - I usally give 8,000huf to include the tip.

Taxis can be a real pain, in the UK I can just call a taxi, the driver is nice, the fee is clear. Over here a lot of taxis will try to scam you. It can be quite exhausting.

Gym membership with student card and use of the pool is 16,200huf - but I do go to one of the more upmarket places.

Shampoo, branded clothes, are the same in western Europe,
