First you do realize that you will have to learn to drive on the "right" side of the road ring? LOL! You can bring your car since you folks are in the EU (for now) but you will less likely to "blend in" because of the yellow plate. Property compared to the UK (from what I seen) is considered inexpensive. But be aware that emergency health care might be 30-50 minutes away. It is a chance we take I guess. Be ready for a lot of bureaucracy and waiting however. DO hire a lawyer if you buy real estate. Good luck!

Can a foreigner (from within the EU) who is not yet registered in Hungary buy a van there and legitimately use it there?
I intend to go through the process of buying a house in Hungary but whilst that is in process buy a van to use for moving my goods to Hungary in several journeys over a few weeks.
So to begin with I would have a temporary accommodation address in Hungary.

If I remember correctly you need to have an address card to be able to buy any car incl a van.

I think that is correct however I was told that one can buy a car but you have to hire an attorney probably and you will get a "special" plate indicating "status"!
