As far as I know "automatic" cars are relatively few and far in between in Hungary and even in Europe in general. The reason is cost which seems to be greater than let's say it is in the US between standard and automatic cars. As for 750,000 forints will get you a used car in fair condition with maybe 100,000 to 150,000 miles but of course it depends on the make and model etc. Don't get your hopes up...cars are not chep in Hungary as they include 27% VAT(tax) that the government gets. Most used cars are brought in from Germany, Belgium etc. Even new cars with "0" miles have to have to go through "inspection". Costing between 20,000 to 30,000 forints on the average. Go figure!

Just to add my two cents. Stay away from Citroen and Dacia more than it's warranty period. They are not cars that age well if you know what I mean. Look at Kia's although they are not very widespread in Hungary for some reason. Automatics will still be harder to find...

On the surface that sounds OK but here is what I was told. If a car has "no papers" meaning certified maintenance record than the chances are great that the mileage (kilometers) are rolled back. In this case you say "there are papers" would give one more confidence but again papers can be "doctored". I suggest taking a look at the maintenance records to see if the same dealership did ALL the service. If so that is probably a good sign. If you see different entries from different places or unreadable or with missing kilometers I would be vary. Unfortunately from what I seen the Hungarian authorities care very little about the vehicle's odometer being rolled back even though legally it is against the law. Obviously if you see a 12 year old car with 70,000 km be wary! Good luck and as always have someone who knows about cars take a look for you! There are many "shady" dealerships including the biggest one in west Budapest that has hundreds of cars mainly brought in from abroad so the car papers are shaky!

Thanks for your advice,it is much appreciated. You are right automatics are rare even harder to find a low mileage one.peugeot and Renault or Suzuki were my only other options because.could not afford a car over 2 million huf.i know Suzuki sx4 are reliable ,never seen a swift before.
