I'm going to move to Budapest within the next months and we're currently looking for a place to live. They recommended us district 2 close to the daycare but I'm wondering if it might be too isolated...any tips or recommendstions where to live best with s small baby?

Hi Anna! As someone residing in Budapest for quite a long time now I can understand your concerns. At first glance the 2nd district and parts of the Buda side (left bank of the river) may seem like an arboretum compared to the lively downtown. Yet I can tell you that me after having lived more than 2 years in Buda (district 12) this part of the city cannot be less boring or outlying. Actually not very many people raise their children in the literally crowded 5th-6th districts except for some locals who have always lived there. Districts on the Buda side like 2,12 even 3 are not only more tolerable with a family but all the expat-targeted facilities gathered in this area. Daycares, international schools, medical facs, English speaking stores and fitness centers... all within a stroll or a short drive. However if you prefer public transportation over car forget the suburb-like 2/A district. Wishing your family the best here!

If you seek for further assistance with home searching I recommend you to contact real estate agency At Home Budapest.
They have a website too with useful information and plenty of rentals.
budapest.athome-network.com

Their services are tailor-made to expats and they are absolutely professional (also free of charge).

Greetings and welcome!
The main question would be - will you be working or staying home with the baby? If staying home - definitely opt for Pest.

You have all the conveniences with the most remarkable transportation system. You can take your child to Margaret Island or up to Normafa in the Buda hills quickly enough - but for living you have everything at your fingertips.

Most of the expats live with the snobbery of wanting to be in Buda. They can have the expense and the inconvenience. I prefer to walk to the theater and then to dinner and then home.
