One must have the permission of the reserve bank of India.

With my limited experience of dealing with the legal system at least in Dharmsala, pay people off. Hire a good legal advocate (lawyer) and have them walk you through the process... Either that or contact the department of home in mumbai and ask them if it's really necessary to send an 8 copy request to the Reserve bank of India.

Have fun!

Hi!

WOw, I thought it was strictly illegal in India for Foreigners to purchase property.

Thank you very much for your friend's contact info. I wrote him immediatly.

I have been searching and searching and when I found out about the National Reserve Bank Of India and it's regulations new of last year, I felt discouraged, to say the least. Granted, it's cheaper to rent. I have friends who usually go apartment hunting for me, negotiate rent and then spring me on the landlord! LOL, but it works...I pay $30 a month rent when I lived in Dharsa.

But buying is a big dream for me, especially since I have a young family to think about...

Tell me, what do you have to pay in taxes, etc? Did you have to give out lots of Backsheesh? I am interested to know your experience.

Thank you again!

Warmly,

Tracy kiybubumo@hotmail.com

Another new bit of information I just ran across regarding buying property in India.

I don't know if it will help.

My fiance is Tibetan. He, with a refugee passport, can legally purchase property in India. He is NOT a citizen of India. Remember that the reserve bank of India says that no foreigners can hold property in India. Well, that ain't quite true! Obviously they can, or else a whole lot of Tibetans would be renting right now! LOL

I was corresponding with a real estate agent in Dharmsala (H.P.) He said he had sold property to foreigners like me in Dharmsala. He knew how to get around all the legality of it... I am sure it has to do with bribing people and getting the right guys to sign off....

I am posting his email here for anyone who wants to grill,,, er....um...question him further. He is Tibetan and seems to be quite a nice chap.

His name is Tamding Dorjee, His son is named Tendzin Wangchuk and here is an email from him. By the way, Enji translates in tibetan to "English" or western person. Cheers!

Hi Tracy
It me Tenzin Wangchuk(tamding's Son). i am glad to hear from you that you are interested to buy land near dharamsala. so you dont have to worry about that legal document. cause i will do it all in your favour. so it is better you meet as here in Mcload Ganj and we will explain you in detail about that. cause we had already sale alots of land to other Enji and tibetan. so you dont have to worry about that at all. but where are you staying in india. and you can contact me on my number 9418102050 and my Res 01892-221545. till then take care.
