Our dogs and street dogs in India

Hi everyone out there with dogs and living in India.

Have your dogs ever been attacked by street dogs while you took them for a walk?

Has anyone ever tried to steal your dog?

What about picking up poop? Does anyone do that? If so, have you had locals talk to you about it?

Do locals scold or give you looks for you and your dog?

Thanks for your advice.
Warmly,
Tracy

I was very interested in your post. We will be moving to New Delhi late December. I have been trying to get information regarding requirements for my 2 dogs. But, I am a bit alarmed by what you are saying with "street dogs" etc.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Hi Hippy Chic!

yeah! I am interested too, because I want to bring a dog from the U.S.

When I lived in India, I rarely saw anyone with a pet dog. There was this old Tibetan guy with a Tibetan terrier or Lhasa Apso. He nearly always carried that thing on his shoulders.

There was another Tibetan woman who took her dogs on a walk on this dirt road. One of my Brit girlfriends got nipped by the little buggers. People had dogs, the local Tibetans, but you hardly saw them.

The street dogs were really groovy, but I witnessed a few nasty fights. One Tibetan was training German Shepards for the Dalai Lama's palace. But no foreigners with dogs.

BTW, I do have a contact for a great vet in Delhi if you want it. A friend forwarded his info to me.

You can email me
kiybubumo@hotmail.com and lets chat, because it would be nice to make a friend who lives nearby! LOL in relative terms of course!

I am going to live maybe 12 hours from you by bus in the north. Delhi is a really cool city. Have you been?

Hi, ya street dogs in India are a real problem. They try to jump over walls and sneak in thru the gates esp when bitches are in heat. Also when walking ur dogs outside,us shud carry a stick and a couple of stones to chase these away. Walking dogs on the beach is ok though there aren't many parks big enough for dogs , and even those few are over crowded . Don't worry about the poop, no one bothers, even people do this on the streets in India!!

Otherwise it's pretty ok to keep dogs, there are a number of good breeders and dog lovers, and dog shows .

Would love to be of help in bringing in your pets ( can arrange for clearance thru customs, animal quarantine etc at Chennai)

Hello
This is not at all about dogs but I noticed that you mentioned having lived in India. I am about to take a trip to India and I wonder if you can give me some advise ?
I want t go to Rishikesh and ( like many tourist) take a yoga course. Do you know if it is best to just arrive and look around or pre book something ?

Thanks a lot

HI!

You know, I would say, just show up and sign up for your yoga retreat. Have you tried calling the retreat centre? You can get calling cards to India from your local Indian grocery store, even at the local Asian markets, otherwise you risk paying $2/minute to call from your phone.

Bla that's too expensive.

But most of the time just showing up is cool

Have fun
