Hello. My husband and I (Black Americans) are moving to Mumbai in the Spring. He works for the US Embassy. We previously lived in China, so we have expat experience. We will live in a serviced apartment in Mumbai. I've read alot about India but still don't feel that I have a good grasp of the culture, what I should bring, etc. Any advice? What to bring? Should we hire household help? What is it really like during monsoon season? Do I have to barter for goods like in China? Know any good websites?
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. Many thanks!

Have a great time in india. People are very friendly and helpfull. When you travel anywhere in the world it is best to always carry as little money on you as possible, be aware of your surroundings, don't be flashy and you will be alright. You will enjoy the hospitality of Indians especially being in the embassy.
I am planning to move to India too, to Bangalore. Why don't we keep in touch. My email is ingie_2000@yahoo.com.

I am a US citizen, orginally from Africa. I may be moving to Mumbai as well. I am still negotiating with a local company. I was visiting Mumbai last December. I may take a job there. India will be new to me, certainly very diffrent than Africa and other developing countries. I am also learning. My potential employer will be renting an apartment for me. I might come for 3 years, shuffling between India and home. I am still learning. I have a friend originally from India who spent five years in Mumbai recently, and he has been helping me understnad the place.
I would like to keep in touch, and perhaps see you guys in Mumbai. Where are you now? Are you in the US? Send me an e-mail to townley7211@aol.com, and we can correspond.

Hello, I suppose by now you must be settled in Mumbai. There are chances my husband and I might be moving there in a few months for his job as well. Before we agree to that though we would like to hear the impressions of other expats on life in Mumbai. Please...anything that might help us understand what it would be like! Thanks, Lu

I am in the selection process for a job that I will bring me to Mumbai very soon. I too am looking for any insight I might be able to obtain from expats there. This will be my second expat experience, and first with my family... You may email me at omartin3@wowway.com
