Hi,
I'm interested in living in India and working there. I'm a UK citizen and after visiting the country a few times, id love to be there more permanently. Is it possible to find work and stay over the normal 6 month visa. I have many years experience in IT in education as an IT manager, but also have many other skills. Advice would be much appreciated.

You need work permit for working in India and that is not easy unless you have a employer willing to do the paperwork for you. India is a leading country for ITES so what special qualification / experience you have and you should plan business activity by joining hand with a local partner.

Thank you for the replies. I should point out that I'm not a student and am a mature person of 60 years looking to relocate to India. I have in the past been offered the possibility of work as the manager of a guest house in a couple of Indian towns. Would this sort of work enable me to get an extended work/residence visa? As I mentioned though, I have a wide range of skills having worked for many years in the educational sector as an IT manager/consultant, but also have skills in customer service and many other disciplines. I shall reach retirement age in the UK in about 5 or 6 years, so would also have a retirement pension at that age.
