I am an American citizen, and lived in India from 2003-12 on a ten-year tourist visa. Upon returning to India from a visit to USA I was informed that I was blacklisted, and was denied entry into the country. I cannot find out why I have been blacklisted. Has anyone had a similar experience, and can suggest to where I can turn for resolution to this issue? I would like to obtain a new visa and return to India.

KenJIo30 How did you find out you were blacklisted? Did you get told at the airport, the Ministry of Home, the border?

ofcourse you will be black listed, you stayed in India for 10 years on a tourist visa which is a gross violation of the tourist visa, it may take upto three years for the Ban to be removed or you will need a lawyer to represent you case and argue why your ban should be removed...

Indiarelo,
Where did you find out about the blacklisting or the three years? I'm curious.
Five years back, the Dharamsala, H.P. FRRO office was allowing foreigners with tourist visas to register and stay as long as the visa was 5 - 10 years. The branch manager got fired eventually...this is life in India...

Thank you for your insightful postings. Then I wonder how the FRRO offices, some of them, allow foreigners to register and forgo the six month mandatory departure?! They are getting people in trouble! Why doesn't the government do something?

Thanks, Indiarelo, for the message. You wrote of many such cases of blacklisting... can you say how they were resolved? By the way, throughout my years in India I had scrupulously adhered to the rules and restrictions of my ten-year multiple-entry tourist visa. My blacklisting is unlikely to have resulted in a violation of my visa's terms.

Thanks for the enquiry, Dzomo1... I was refused entry at CSI Airport, Mumbai. The senior Immigration officer there informed me of my blacklisting.

Hi, there are changes in visa norms over the years and the blacklist is done in the case of a violation, let me give you an example, earlier one could extend a Tourist visa now one cannot. Please ascertain the reason for the ban and depending on the nature one can make a legal representation to remedy the case
