Healthcare in Bali

I'm wondering about the healthcare options in Bali? I've read they're promoting medical tourism there, but have been in touch with an acquaintance who lives there. She said the health care is very poor and that people go to Australia to be treated. She also told me not to go there because there's dengue and other mosquito borne illnesses galore. I'm interested in feedback from people who've spent a fair amount of time there and might have had a medical issue attended to.

Could you please state the source of the medical tourism promotion? Hard to believe!! Lived in Bali for 2 years and needed treatment a few times. The dentist was fine...you really have to search for a decent one, however. As an expat, you'll be charged WAY more than an Indonesian would be charged. I would NEVER have anything very serious treated in Bali - haven't heard of people going to Australia fro treatment but I know several that went to Singapore for treatment - closer flight and good care. I had acupuncture, mole removal, lung infection, sinus infection - that kind of stuff treated. The antibiotics weren't strong enough for my lung infection and it almost 3 months to recover. Many kinds of medicine don't require a doctor's prescription - you can go to the apotek (pharmacy) and get your own.

I'll have to look for the Bali medical tourism article and links for you. Thank you so much for your input. The friend of a friend who told me to "absolutely not" go to Bali because of the mosquitoes and poor healthcare is the person who told me people go to Australia for treatment. It seems like a huge distance, but I didn't realize that at the time. Singapore seems logical for serious needs. By the way, that person is elderly herself and has been living in Bali for at least three years, more or less, that I know of, so the situation can't be that bad.

Here's a link to one article I had seen last year. There were a few out there about the BIMC facility.

Hi,
There was no link in your post - at least none that I saw :-).
I had no problem with mosquitos and I hiked every Saturday from 4-6:30pm in the jungle, along the beach, around animals, etc. Mosquitos love me but not so much in Bali!
Still would like to see the medical tourism article(s) because there's no way anyone should GO there for treatment........ maybe acupuncture is the exception...

Just read the article - my take is "patient beware". they're new and most likely there are a lot of "kinks" to work out.........due diligence will be extremely important here.....
