Can western people buy in Batam? are there restrictions?
I hope to buy a property in a non western development not for my own use. Just to have my name on it. Is it possible?

My experience in Indo is that if the property is less than 5 are (1 are = 100 square meters, if I remember correctly) you can own it. If larger, have a competent attorney (very hard to find in Indo) draft a contract where you are owner but an Indonesian (that you trust) is owner on paper only. They cannot do anything with the land without your approval. Good luck.

Batam is the only place in Indonesia where foreign nationals can buy and own in their own name. There are conditions. Check out our website at www.batamproperties.com for further information
