I am an American who is involved in an ongoing long distance relationship with an Indonesian of Chinese ancestry. It is a ways off but I am starting to put my toe in the water regarding immigration to Indonesia. The relevant facts are that I am receiving Social Security but my allotment and resources make it impossible to immigrate as a retiree. I have what would be an ample income to survive on the local economy and meet my obligations- but it falls short of the law. In that regard I am very familiar with the culture, the food and speak some Mandarin. I know this is not the dominant language of Chinese in Indonesia but my potential spouse speaks Mandarin.
I am open to anything as far as advice regarding any possible solution to this dilemma. Talk me out of it- or help us find a way. I'm looking a year down the road- time for an infatuation to fade and reality to become apparent. But we are in love and right now I just want to know if there might be any way to do this in a year.

I don't think US immigration let you bring your wife if you are not productive employee with income or you have business that earn more than standard living. It take 1 to 2 years to sponsor her and bring here to US. Also speak to mind, she expecting you are not live in low life , this woman need to fulfill her dream why she leave Indonesia to be in the US. Think about it

But if you want to live in Indonesia forever then it will be different story , are you willing to give up all of your life style here , is she really want you stay there with her for ever ? I tell this cause most thing happen is the other way around. Get peace of mind before you do.

Thank you but maybe I am unclear. I am an American who wishes to move to Indonesia. She does not wish to come to America. I want to live there.

I'm sorry that I only read the first part of your message before responding You do understand. I will come to visit first and meet her father before deciding. I don't want to disrupt her family or create problems for her children. I am asking about resident alien status for the spouse of an Indonesian citizen- if it is possible. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Merlin,
as long as you are marrying her legally, it would be no problem to stay in Indonesia. normally for foreign whose legally married an Indonesian women, they will have to apply KITAS (temporary stay permit) from Indonesian immigration.
cheers.
