" Hi, I am an American living/working in Germany. My boyfriend and I are planning a three week trip to Ireland in July. 1. Do Americans need a travel Visa or just a passport? 2. Anyone have tips on backpacking through Ireland? 3. Can anyone recommend travel guides/websites with good info, prices of hostels, etc.. 4. What is the weather typically like in July? 5. Anyone know of good airfares between Dublin and Frankfurt? Any other traveler tips would be super-duper Ciao, Heide "

" Hi Heidi, You wouldn''t need a visa. We haven''t lived here a year yet, but I have heard to expect lots of rain in June and July. Dampness, at any rate. However, when the sun does come out and stay out, it is beautiful. We take the train quite a bit, even with small children, and have had good service. I have the McQuillan IRELAND guide and have found it helpful. www.ireland.travel.ie might also help you work out some of the kinks. also http://exodus-coach.co.uk/Travel_Map/Ireland_Map.htm "

" Hello Heide! Been going to Ireland on hols myself for the last 10 years (always in October though). For cheap flights check out Ryanair (Frankfurt-Hahn to Shannon as cheap as 300 DM return) at www.ryanair.com When you are in the region of Shannon Airport, do check out Bunratty Castle and Folkpark and DO try their applecake, it''s pure heaven! Hope you have good weather, in October it''s almost always lovely. Going myself again the first 2 weeks of October and staying in Co. Clare. Enjoy! Bee Frankfurt area "

" Hi Heide, I don''t know if you''re going to read this before you go, but an excellent site is www.hostelworld.com for cheap hostels and stuff; they even have some programs already set up for backpackers in Ireland. Have fun! Erin "
