Hello! Has anyone brought their dog from the USA to Ireland? If so, which carrier did you use? We have a small and older Pekingese.

to Deb: yes we brought 4 dogs!! Yep! That IS crazy but when they are family--well, you know. I actually wrote a book on making this move and included a chapter on moving your pets--the book is on amazon as an ebook and is called Warning: Ireland Home buyers--it might be helpful to you as I talk about the pets, getting through real estate market and also getting utilities on, etc. basic stuff about moving into a new place.

Having said that, with a smaller dog it MAY be possible to have him in the cabin with you--small dogs and cats are often allowed in the cabin as long as their crate can fit under the seat. You are best to go to the website of your airline and look it up Pet Policy or something like that. If he is not that small he will have to go cargo and that is another issue.

Primarily though you must make sure you follow all the procedures put forth by the Irish government for pets coming into the country--that means vaccinations, tape worm treatments, micro chipping and a few other things. Again, you can find out that info in my book and also you can find some of that on Ireland's web page about bringing animals into Ireland. There are a lot of details that you must go through and you really need to follow that or you dog will end up being quarantined for up to six months which is of course horrible for them and for you and also expensive. If you dot all your i's and cross your t's he won't have to be quarantined but you do need to follow the rules.

We moved 2 dogs from Texas to Ireland in October. I actually dedicated an entire page to it on my website about our move to Ireland.
http://psiwire.com/about-us/moving-pets-to-ireland/ This page goes into all of the detail on what is needed and when.

We used http://pet-express.com/ and it went quite smoothly.

We also used Pet express and I have written a chapter about it in my book at amazon--Warning; Ireland Home buyers--but Pet express was very helpful and will be helping us go back again as well.

We used Pet Express from SFO to Ireland recently.
They helped navigate the convoluted requirements for sending an animal overseas. Couldn't have done it without them!

we also used Pet Express from Denver to Dublin--they were worth the cost--we will be using them again to return if Ireland succeeds in kicking us out! Sigh!
