For those promoting the Petition to assist people wishing to retire to Ireland - for the first time an Irish businessman, based in Chicargo has been appointed to the Irish Senate & made his maiden speech to the Upper House in Dublin today.(Google for details). I strongly recommend that those promoting the Petition ,to make early contact with this man,who obviously is well connected politically to the ruling party in Ireland - he could be a very powerful ally to the cause of helping those wising to retire/relocate to Ireland. If this man comes on board with the Petition ,his input towards reforming the legislation, could be invaluable !!

If you are speaking of Billy Lawless, I wrote him last week a rather long letter and sent it off. Have not heard anything back yet.

Billy Lawless has no presence on LinkedIn that I could find so that is a concern. Is he on Facebook? He is Chicago based in the US? Let's get the facts straight on his background so we can mount a concerted and joint effort to have him help our cause.

@SenBillyLawless.ie If you Google his name, his maiden Senate speech/other details are listed. In any case,I understand that those behind the Petition have already written to him.Now his primary purpose apparently is to assist Irish Immigrants in the US but hopefully he will take the broader view & actively campaign strongly for those US citizens wishing to set up home in Ireland.

I had been trying to contact Sen. Lawless to no avail as he until recently had no working phone or email address.
But earlier this week, I finally tracked him down and spoke with his office in Dublin. Apparently, Lawless is still based in Chicago but was in Ireland this week giving a speech at the closing session of the Sinead. If anyone has a transcript I would love to read it.
Although he would be a powerful voice if interested in our cause, I am not sure whether he would want to cooperate in our efforts. He was appointed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny as the first Irish American (he has dual citizenship) representative to the Sinead and his primary focus is to try and resolve the status of the 50,000 undocumented Irish living in the U.S.
Although I would like to think that his concerns and ours are linked, he might feel just the opposite.
I agree we should coordinate our outreach to Lawless and other Irish officials such as the new Minister of State for the Diaspora Joe McHugh.

So where do we go from here? How do we coordinate our activities to generate the most buzz?
I have been in touch with many people who can have some influence but I will need others to stand up and be counted. By myself, I will have little influence.
I will therefore wait for feedback from others. If too few of us are willing to be heard, I will not continue to share my efforts and ideas.
I am also thinking we should find another platform to share our thoughts. Any ideas?
