The second petition 'Help the Global Irish retire' has hit a count of 100. Here is hoping the Minister of Justice will now take notice. Between the 2 petitions created on the topic of Americans Retiring in Ireland, there are 263 signatures !

DIASPO'RA na n GAEL ,two petitions Help The Global Irish Retire To Ireland and Americans Retiring To Ireland ,a total of 263 signatures . Wow that's pretty sad ,don't think the Minister of Justice will even take notice or even care!!! That's a proverbial drop in the ocean . Maybe three more zeros might get a little more response to your petition. Sorry ,was just hoping you had a larger following guess those who are being asked to leave Ireland in X number of days will have no chance. Good Luck !!!

Meachair54, why would you post such a seemingly mean-spirited message? If memory serves me, aren't you an Irish citizen? What is your "skin" in the game?

And to be clear, we are not looking or have any need for followers. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to spend a little of their valuable time getting out the message, whether by letters, petitions, or whatever means they can offer. I think you may owe an apology to the people who went public and spoke on the radio, were interviewed in newspapers, wrote dozens of letters and spoke to their TD's, all at the risk of being labeled a troublemaker.

You know what they say, we are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Let us be positive and fully support this worthy cause - it's good for those wishing to set up home in Ireland & it's good for the Country-A win win situation.Think of the many towns & villages throughout Ireland whose local population have been decimated by those forced to leave these shores in search of employment abroad - let us extend a cead mile failte & due respect to those fine people, whether of Irish extraction, or not, who wish to set up home in our fair land.

I don't have any "skin" in this game.Whether I'am a Irish citizen or not has little bearing on this subject. For over a year I've been following this topic on this site with great interest. All this , time non citizens of Ireland are whining about how this countries laws on immigration and living in Ireland are unfair . Only recently have I read of people getting TD's email addresses and sending them messages asking for consideration on changing Ire. Immigration and residency laws.Like that is going to influence them with a John Doe message from non citizens. Point being governments don't work like that and never will. It takes years of give and take between governments to change the smallest of things that aren't agreed on, if they are even changed at all. Just because a law doesn't seem just or legal by an outsider doesn't give the outsider the right to expect the law of that government to change it for the outsiders, that just isn't realistic. The change of government laws on any matter must come from that countries citizens or its government to get the process of amending its law, that's if that country is even interested in changing a law. So you want people t o volunteer and help get the non citizens message out to the right people who can promote change on those laws.. Correct? So I owe those people an apology. Why? Because they are risking being labeled troublemakers. Are these people going to be carted off to secret labor camps for voicing opinions on how they feel about the law? If yes then maybe you wouldn't want to move to that country ! My point being, other people are always complaining about other governments rules and laws, trying to tell that government what to do for the outsiders whims and wishes, not happening. I had mentioned once before on this sites that governments don't work that way, especially when it comes to immigration and living in their country with the problems going on today (TERRORISTS) !! So as far as owing an apology to those trying to further their own agenda of changing laws to enter another country, I think not ! Why? You do not know my part in trying to soften those laws on living or retiring to that country.Do Not assume I'am mean spirited just because I don't show my cards in this so called GAME !!! I'm on your side on this subject, but can't put out in print everything I know and what's going on behind the scenes Thank You Very Much, for your quick rush to judgement.

Meachair54,

If you are indeed supportive of the right of retirees to reasonable consideration for residency in Ireland, I implore you to help our cause and come out from behind the scenes. As you said, there should be no fear of reprisal so why not? We can try to give you a hand.

But if I understand what you are saying about non-Irish citizens not being entitled to a voice in immigration policy, I would point out that the Ministry of Justice has in fact agreed to review their policies and to listen to the viewpoints of ALL stakeholders. And many TD's are making inquiries on behalf of non-citizens.

If I understand your point of view, you think that the 50,000 undocumented Irish living in the U.S. have no right to ask for changes to U.S. immigration policy? After all, they are not legal U.S citizens. Also, would you reject the right of Irish leaders such as Enda Kenny, Mark Daly, Billy Lawless and Joe McHugh to petition the U.S. government on behalf of these 50,000? This is what is happening right now.

Daly, Kenny, McHugh, yes they can petition the U.S. Gov't on behalf of its 50,000 illegal Irish in the U.S.. Don't forget the U.S. Immigration reform is held up in the courts. Lawless is a friend of the Obama administration but he will be out in Jan. Then it's a crapshoot whose going to be the Pres. Maybe he will get Obama a job in one of his Chicago restaurants. Then whoever is Pres. The immigration fight starts all over. As you know illegals will be deported then they will have to go through the process legally from the beginning which will take years,. So as I mentioned before even governments working together to fix these problems will take years. The Ministry of Justice and the TDs are politicians and say what they, have to . The wheels of Government turn very slowly. In many countries. I will continue to in my efforts to improve matters by continuing along the same channels as before.. That line if your not with us you must be against us line ,so come over to us lets work together just doesn't cut it. People should stop and think before criticizing other people's intentions. So once again good luck on your endeavor Kev NYC
