Change to Stamp 0 Renewal Procedure!

An alert ex-pat emailed me today with news she's spotted a change in Stamp 0 renewal procedures outlined on the INIS web pages.

Take a look here:

http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/registration-renew-independent

It's not anything earth-shaking; they're simply asking us Zero-ers to see our Immigration Officer two weeks prior to our Stamp expiration. Also, the date for MAILING in your renewal application WAS 30 days prior, but that info has been removed from the site, though it says you still must send the info to Dublin.... no due date given...(???)

As is the INIS modus operandi, there's no explanation WHY they want us to do this, nor a date this became effective. (But it's so new, the Internet Archive, aka The Way-Back Machine, has no previous record.) It seems our pleas for better communication and transparency from INIS have gone unheeded.
I suspect this change has something to do with their inability to process renewals in a timely manner, e.g., within their own 30 day timeframe. They currently are taking over 6 weeks to process.

If I find out anything further about this, I'll post it here, and if you happen to have a conversation with your own local Immigration Officer, see if they can offer any insights, and get back to us with the highlights!

Ha ha ha - this should add a new twist (not!) - same old, same old, isn't it? I found one of the most frustrating things about the whole permission to stay process the way each immigration officer had a different story and different advice... and the bottom line, really, was that none of them really know anything! :) And the beat goes on...

That's business as usual in Ireland. The more questions you ask, the more confused you'll get. And it doesn't matter if it about permission to stay, or a drivers license.

Hi, just sent an inquiry to INIS regarding the change and the response I received is that we should follow the process as before: send in renewal request a month before the expiration date of our leave to remain and register with the Garda once permission is received. No explanation for the oddly confusing statement about timing. So we will just carry on as we have done previously. Hope that helps...
