Hello Chibelle, If retiring to Ireland as a non citizen or non EU citizen you have to abide by irelands residency rules , which is basically you have to prove you have X amount of money a set amount annually plus X amount of savings so you don't become a burden on the state. You also have to have health insurance, to access private hospital and physicians as well as state hospitals . You can go to Pacific Prime.com to see a wide variety of health insurance companies that serve Ireland. Just follow the instructions for what country or area you want insurance for and you can get quotes or contact them directly. I hope this helps . Good Luck !!!

Google is your friend here. Just look for health insurance Ireland and check the various plans. There are no guidelines from INIS on what your plan should cover; pick whatever plan should fit your needs and you should be fine. This topic has been covered before on the forum so take a look around....

Do you have Irish citizenship or dual citizenship? Unless you do, you might need to check with the Irish govt. how long you can stay? We met a couple that spends 6 months in Ireland, then 6 months in Ireland. Best of luck!

If you are planning on buying a home, the mortgage system with the banks is very different from the States. We tried to...but they wouldn't accept pensions, SS, as income. Wishing you the best!

6 months in Ireland and then 6 months in Ireland ? Is this a misprint ? or do you mean spending 6 months, then going out for a day or 2, then returning for another 6 months. That is not legal. US passport holders only get 3 months and then must leave for 3 months. I think they might want to leave the dog with someone in the US until they find out if they will be allowed to stay. Then have the dog sent over.
