Receiving Healthcare in Israel as a Jewish American

I’m not sure what to do. I recently was diagnosed with cancer and require chemo treatments. I am completely uninsured (I’m American). I lost my health coverage when I lost my job, and Cobra was too expensive for me. I didn’t qualify for any heath plans that I could afford due to preexisting conditions at the time (cancer was not one of them).

I was thinking of doing Aliyah once I met someone here in CA (I would be scared to death of moving that far on my own), but that has yet to happen. To cut to the chase, I know you get 6 or 12 months of health care in Israel if you are a new immigrant without a job. When I looked into Aliyah though, it looks like it is a lengthy process taking around a year which in my case is too late.

Would I be able to get cancer treatments and medical care in Israel as a Jewish American if I cannot pay for treatments? My only other option is to declare bankruptcy. I looked into interest free loans, but I don’t seem to qualify. My family doesn’t know that I don’t have insurance as well as that I have cancer.

Sorry to hear of your health issues.

I personally only believe in holistic medicine/practitioners, but obviously it's your life & your choice.

I would contact NBN & ask them - http://www.nbn.org.il

They are swamped right now, as it seems it's high season since everyone wants to get there before the school year starts.

From what I've heard, they have different plans. The more expensive the plan, the more stuff you get.

If you get a job (you probably won't want to), they pay a portion of it.

Some of the plans also cover holistic practitioners as well.

If you remember, please post back here so we know what they said to you.

Be well.
