Affordable housing/Communities

I'm planning on becoming a citizen under the Law of Return & I'm exploring the housing market as a buyer.

From what I've unearthed so far, it seems pricey in many cities.

My budget is $180K (USD), which I know isn't much in this market. I prefer to live/buy in the surrounding areas of Tel Aviv but this doesn't seem realistic budget wise.

Are there any desirable cities/communities that have more affordable housing?

Based on my budget, a 2 bedroom apt. seems more in-line. Would enjoy hearing your opinions on this.

Hi,

I'm about to return home myself hopefully towards the end of this month.

That is very low for Israel.

Up North it's much more affordable & I would recommend you buy land & build a house, but I don't know if you'd have enough.

And of course getting Israelis to build a house on time & on budget will be a challenge, although I could dig up (if I can find it) an e-mail with a guy's name in it. He had his house build (North American style) & couldn't stop raving about the contractor he hired.

I'm not sure if a person can buy a house on a Moshav if they aren't related, but that may be another option for you as the houses are bigger & should be less expensive, but you do need a car.

They usually rent them out, so again, I'm not sure.

I recommend you reach out to a few Realtors & have them tell you which areas fit your budget if you want to buy outright, but I wouldn't buy until you've lived in that area first.

If you want to reach out to me, I can give you the URLs to many FB groups that may help you.

Be careful of people overcharging.

Just like it was in Panama when I got there, many Israelis & even Olim overcharge new Olim b/c they know they need help & are clueless about what it really costs &/or they are desperate.

HTH : )

Shalom Michal,

Congratulations on your upcoming Oleh & thanks so much for all the helpful info.

I like your idea on buying into a Moshav if this is even possible, or creating this type of environment via purchasing raw land, as this is much more appealing. I've also been looking at farm/work exchange sites like workaway.info & saw a few eco villages in Negev, etc that may be a possibility for exchange.

I will pinpoint several cities first for potential living/buying then contact a few realtors.

Those FB links sound golden so I will reach out to you. :-)

Lots of luck with your immigration and relocation.

One or our groups had a discussion about the various immigrant communities in Israel. In addition to price, they pointed out the good and the bad about the community they live in. Before you decide, please read what they have to say. http://anglo-list.com/aliyah-information/israel-aliyah-communities

You are correct in saying that $180K is not a huge budget (approx 750,000 shekels) but you can find housing in this range. Please read the information contained in some of these articles http://anglo-list.com/general-3/housing

Thanks
