" Sally Anne, I faced a similar situation a few months back and found it very informative just looking at the online classifieds to see what rent would run, etc. If you''re looking at trying to save a buck, you won''t want to live right in the city. Rome has an excellent metro system that is comparable to the one I used to use in Washington D.C., so getting around isn''t a problem even if one lives in the suburbs. I don''t know how good your Italian is, but the classifieds for the greater Rome area (and I mean GREATER) can be found at www.portaportese.com . Get a map of the area and check out the different suburbs. I found prices to be reasonable enough in the Tivoli and Bagni di Tivoli areas, but you never know what they look like until you get there, of course! Hope everything works out for you. All The Best, Jonathan Blosser "
