Hello, I and my wife will be moving from California to Bari this month and I was wondering if there is any advise anyone could give us before we leave the USA, primarily about conditions in Bari right now (housing costs, utility costs, food costs, etc.). Thanks in advance.

Grazie mille, Mario!

My wife and I are getting extremely nervous about this move. I have traveled extensively in Europe, but have never been in Italy. My wife has never been outside the US. We've been studying the Italian language for about six months, but have really had no one to speak it with. My company has metrics on the region, but there is often a huge difference between the average rent and what is available when you step off the plane. I'm just not sure how much money I am going to need to cover me for the first 3-6 months in country.

We REALLY want to do this, but we want the experience to be a pleasant one, not one that has us trembling in a hotel for a month while we try to figure out if we have enough money to buy un caffè con latte e zucchero.

Ciao Yara, as you know Italy is a very personal relationship oriented place and it would be wise to network as much as possible before arriving so you have someone there to look out for you. A good place to start may be The International Women's Club of Bari
Address: Via Petrarca 2,I-70010 Adelfia Bari Italy. Phone: (39) 08 04 59 26 72
Sorry I couldn't get an email contact for you, also this web site may be of interest:
http://www.webtourist.net/knowbefore/goto/bari/italy/the_city.htm. This also may help: http://www.comune.bari.it/
Regards from Rome, Mario
