I am a 39 yr old man living in South Africa, I have a wife and 3 kids aged (9, 7, 3). I am at point 99 of being offered a management position in Europe, Country manager, south and central Europe. I am South African and I love my country, if I except this position it would in large be a professional decision. Because I am going to travel extensively for my work I can pretty much choose which country I what to sty in. I am thinking Italy because from all my experiences and interactions with other nationalities I have come to realise that South Africans and Italians instinctively form a bond, and both nationalities share many common values. Based on the short profile that I have given can some one give me pointers on things to consider when choosing a town or city, there are so many variables to consider!!!!!

My wife and I moved to Italy from Canada several years ago, and chose Florence at first, then moved to Sulmona in Abruzzo, and now have moved to Francavilla Al Mare.
In a nutshell, Florence was wonderful, but the tourists got to us - we found Tuscany to be over-hyped. Abruzzo in Central Italy has amazing untapped resources, and access to transportation out of Rome is ideal. The mountain parks are beautiful and the climate great. But we found the services and infrastructure (doctors especially) left someting to be desired.
So we moved to the coast. The airport is 10 minutes away, the mountains are 30 minutes away, services are top quality. Pescara is a bit busy, but Francavilla is a dream come true.
Our kids (adults) come here often from England, and we have taken the overnight ferry to Greece.
We chose not to move further south because of the lack of international transportation hubs. We still go back to Canada, and it's pretty easy.
By the way, we were both teachers, and from what we have seen of the schools, they are very good.
