My permesso is finally ready to pick up. But, I'm in the US tending to a family medical emergency. Any ideas how long they'll wait for me to pick it up?? It took immigration 4 months after the day I applied to have it ready. They told me it would take 30 days. I'm so hoping I won't have to start the whole process over when I get medical things cleared up for my father. They won't allow my husband to pick it up with copies of my nulla osta, residency, and of my passport. Any suggestions?

Hi 2Torino,
call them and ask them, make sure you ask a supervisor and get their name down. Usually they don't care about your reason why you cant be there for documents. We are going through something similar, with my husband being there and not being allowed to do certain things without my consent and I can't be there now to give it> I don't know if they do power of attorney and every time we ask we don't get a good answer.

Have you tried asking the Italian Cnnsulate where you live about it? Maybe the Italian Questura can possibly send it to them and then you can receive it here in the States from the Consulate.

Thank you carmine and sharan for your kind words! It's so difficult to manage parent's care in the US and try to live in Italy, too. My husband in Torino is missing the kids and I so much.

Oh, I know! My husband is away in Italy for 3 months, and he is so lonely without the kids and me. He can't wait to come back and neither can we. It is hard trying to live and be responsible in 2 countries. You will be fine and our thoughts are with you :)
