Wondering what to do with all my DVD's from the US. From what I understand, you can't watch them on Italian equipment, correct?

It is important that you have a player that will play NTSC (USA) Italy has the PAL system, but you can buy the equipment that will play both + SECAM. in Italy.

PAL VHS Countries (PAL = Phase Alternating Lines) NTSC Countries (NTSC = National Television Standard Committee) SECAM Countries (for these, purchase the PAL DVD)

Darn,

I just got rid of my NTSC DVD's.

You are correct, US DVDs will work in an Italian DVD player due to the differences in NTSC and PAL.

However, you can watch them on your computer or laptop and hook up to TV/Monitor. I play my DVDs through my MacBook and hook up to the TV with and HDMI cable. If you brought your American DVD player and it is only 110v you can use a transformer to power it and an HDMI cable to play the DVD on your TV as the HDMI cable will send digital signals to your TV.

That should be "will not work on an Italian DVD player"

This may be difficult to embrace but we have reached a point that DVD's, even blueray, are obsolete. They are pieces of plastic, with cherished content, that have been replaced with streaming. You can get almost anything without the "disc". An amazon or netflix or other account is available where ever you are and you don't need shelf space.
