Would love to hear from anyone who has applied for a partita iva and am particularly curious about the cost and taxes.

I met with a commercialista when I was in Torino several years ago, and if the info still applies, I was told I would pick a professional category and then the Italian version of the IRS would determine how much money they expect me to earn on an annual basis. Supposedly, if I don't fulfill their estimate, I may be subject to an audit. A bit crazy, when I think about how income for U.S. businesses fluctuate. Can anyone confirm or dispute the info?
