Buying A Car for Italian/USA Dual CItizens

For those of us who are dual citizens, we are able to buy a car without first having residency in Italy. This was told to me today by the owner of a car dealership in Abruzzo. We were informed that we just need an A.I.R.E. certificate. Since we don't have that, only our Italian passports and carta d'identita, I have now asked if these will suffice, If not, we will write for the certificate from our comune in Italy.

Your AIRE certificate comes from your consulate. AIRE = Registry of Italians Living Abroad; you are an Italian citizen not living in Italy, thus you are "living abroad" and listed in the registry (AIRE) maintained by the consulate serving the area where you live.

Doppio,

Are you certain about this? I saw this on the SF Consulate's site. We use the Boston Consulate:

•Information recorded within the Consular registries is NOT official confirmation of AIRE/Vital Record registration, NOR is it an official confirmation of family and/or marital status. As such, Consulates CANNOT issue certificates of residency abroad/AIRE registration, nor certificates regarding family/marital status.
•Certificates confirming AIRE registration, in addition to those confirming marital and family status, can only be issued by the city/Comune in Italy where one is registered in AIRE.Consulates can only issue certificates confirming registration of citizens in the Consular registry, indicating the information currently available, as well the composition of one's family unit.

Well, that IS interesting. Odd, but interesting.

I retract my previous comment. :)

Doppio, I have just sent a note to the anagrafe in Boston. I will let you know what I hear back.
