Hi there,

a description of a new apartment,
on a certain site, contained the phrase "interni allo stato grezzo" - what does it mean - a naked walls?

Many thanks,
Gongi

It translates to raw interior. It's common that apartments are rented empty (no kitchen cabinets and fixtures) but I suspect that this add suggests that the interior may need some work. Perhaps finish plastering or at least painting.

The proposed apartment is for buying, not renting..

"Still applies"

Perhaps even more so. It's weird, especially for people raised in the US, to learn that "unfurnished" in Italy very often means that even the kitchen is totally bare - no cabinets, no stove/oven, no sink, no refrigerator, no nothing. Just bare walls with pipes and wires sticking out of them.

And, again, this applies even more so to units which are for sale.

If it's listed on a new apartment it could mean many things. If it's a new apartment building, it could just have the exterior structure, no exterior doors, windows, etc. and you would finish it the way you want, with interior walls etc. If it's in an existing building it probably means there are exterior doors and windows, but not interior, nor plaster, flooring etc. There are different states of "stato grezzo" but one thing for sure is you won't be looking at a "finished apartment" by US standards.
