Curious to know if there are additional charges (such as VAT) added to items purchased on Amazon.it. For instance, if I wanted to buy a product that costs 8,99, with Amazon Prime, would 8,99 be the total charge? )
Thanks!

And, like Amazon in the US or GB, depending on the total cost of your order shipping is free. They will also frequently remind you of the benefits of Amazon Prime.
One thing I have found about shipping here. The delivery estimates are often not accurate. If they say Thursday, it just might arrive Tuesday. If your not home, they will not just leave it. Depending on the service they use for that shipment, and where you live, it may be left with a neighbor, probably more common in the smaller villages. You can also set up a consignment place, which often might be the local post office. It seems hit or miss on whether a shipment qualifies to be sent to the post office, but I have found it very useful. They usually just toss me the package from behind the counter and have me sign a black piece of paper and do the official computer check in later. A huge time saver as small village post offices often have a little crowd of people paying bills and other things, some of which seem to take forever to accomplish.

Thanks all!
And a great tip re the post office.
Seems like the added VAT partially explains why prices are higher than in the U.S.

Is this also the case if items are ordered on Amazon, GB or other European countries?

One more question: Can a credit card from the US be used to purchase items on Amazon.it?

I use PayPal which is linked to a credit card. But to answer your question, yes
