Hi, we're a semi retired couple -work virtually and were looking to live in Florence for 2 months to test it out ( only have 90 days, unless someone can say differently). Where is a nice place to live/ where isn't it nice? Don't mind walking into the center and around. Any opinions.... or do you know of any apartments available from Sept. 1 to Nov 1. Thank you, Gayle

Just so you can't say, "But, no one told us!", please be aware that any form of work performed while in Italy - even "virtual" work performed online, would still be a violation of the tourist visa (waiver).
Granted, the likelihood of getting caught is small, but it can and does happen and the penalties can be quite steep.

Hi, I noticed when I was in Rome this pas.t April, a number of American "street performers". Since they get paid by donations of passersby, are they in danger of being penalized or deported? I ask this because street performing such as singing or playing an instrument is an easy way to make some quick extra money.

It is, indeed, illegal to perform any type of work whether for salary or for donations while in Italy on a tourist (or other non-work permissible) visa.
By doing so (accepting donations for street performances, for example) you are taking money from those who are legally entitled to perform such work.
Also, I would not be surprised to learn than any type of busking requires a permit.

It may be illegal but it's everywhere. The police could only do so much.
