Buying an apartment without an agent

Hello,

I've searched an apartment to buy around Roma lately, in one case I approached an agent, asked some general questions via mail, got some answers, NO commitment was made to use the agent's services etc..
Anyway, I've found out the very same apartment on airbnb, it turned out that the owner is trying to sell his house while still trying to rent it for short periods.
My question: Can I approach the owner directly regarding the possibility to buy his apartment?
Is it 'ok' to bypass the agent ?

Many thanks,
Gongi

As long as you haven't signed anything or made any kind of appointment with that agent regarding that apartment you are good to go!

Did he actually show you the apartment? When I saw apartments the agent signed me on each one. If he did not, I wouldn't worry about it. If he actually brought you to see the apartment inside without signing, I might consider paying him.

No - I didn't see it, I only saw its pictures, yet it enables me to go there, stay in the apartment before I do any move, an unusual situation for a buyer..
