Hoping to spend Sep & Oct in Italy next year and would like to attend a language school and rent an apartment somewhere in central Italy that has good railway access. Any tips?

You will find tons of them. Florence, Rome, Milan Sienna pop up at the top of the searches. They often offer services to assist you in getting a place to live during your course.

Perugia is famous for its language school. It's the beautiful hilltop capital of Umbria and known as a university town in general. Very lively on its own, near Assisi, Spoleto, Orvieto and Florence. Lovely, centrally located place

My husband did a very intensive 3 month course in Perugia many years ago and was very pleased with it. Afterwards, he attended the U. of Pisa Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He did say that on the first day of class he had the biggest headache of his life!

LisaC1, would you mind sharing the name of the school in Perugia that your husband attended? Thank you.

I can ask him tonight but he has always referred to it as "the school for foreigners."

Thank you LisaC1 for your encouraging answer, I will add Perugia to my list. Luckily I just want to be able to converse a little.
