I need to install wi-fi in our apartment in Liguria. We will probably use the apartment for less than 1 week per month. We need WiFi for work and to watch TV via the internet. Can anyone recommend which company we should use and approximate costs per month. Also ... what’s involved to instal it ? Many thanks

Just shop around. They're all similar with similar prices. Look for fibre at greater than 100 mbyte. I have TIM at 200 for 26 euro per month with phone that I don't use. Best to ask your neighbors what they use.

Not sure if you managed to resolve this? I have just joined the Forum. I also have a holiday home in Liguria. After several attempts to get TIM to install a land-line internet connection we gave up since the online application process couldn't cope with someone who didn't have an Italian Passport or ID document. In the end we opted for buying a mobile WiFi router and getting a data SIM card from TIM. The cost works out at euro 9/month for a 24 month contract with a data limit of 30GB/month (normally more than enough for our usage!). Not sure how far you are from Sarzanna but Vanna at the TIM store there was very helpful (and speaks excellent English). Fortunately, we have a reasonable 4G signal and so download speeds are generally around 25Mbps and upload about 12Mbps -more than good enough for streaming films. Since the landline option would have only given us an 11Mbps download speed at considerably greater cost we are very happy with the mobile/cell SIM card option.

Excuse my ignorance, but this means you have to get a good cell signal inside your home, correct?

I use an external cell phone aerial plugged into the WiFi router containing the data SIM card. This seems to work really well but its worth checking if you can get a reasonable 4G phone signal on a mobile/cell phone before buying the router and external aerial. If you need more info let me know & I will send you links to the hardware I used -the total set-up cost was less than euro 100.

I don't know what an external cell phone aerial is....yes, please send links. Our apartment has 2 meter thick walls, and a cell signal doesn't come in.

Can you get a 4G signal outside your home? It should be displayed on your cellphone handset -if so how many bars are showing? This is the mobile WiFi Hotspot I purchased from Amazon: Huawei E5577-4G Low-Cost, Super-Fast Portable Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011YM0QC4/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_8Vx2DbM78EB9H This was the external Antenna/ Ariel HUAWEI 4G Router Mobile Broadband https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00L57AL10/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_AYx2DbQMBJKS0

I'm not in Italy now, but I'll archive this message. We're trying to get all the bits and pieces together. Also, trying to organize having our utility bills paid online. Grazie mille!!

On other hardware piece that is worthwhile is a wifi extender. https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/ I have my wifi router in my third floor apartment and the extender gives me great reception in my cantena in the basement.
