An interesting twist. We are moving to France on Sunday. The French authorities told me that I should bring the S1 form so we can be covered for medical and drugs in France. I went to the sanitary office in Palermo and asked for that form. They told me that it's only for those who have paid into the SS system in Italy. Since our pension is American, we are not eligible. Then she asked if we have the free coverage or the payment coverage now. I told her we had free coverage. She spoke to her supervisor and was told that we should not have that for the same reason and that we should be paying for Dr. Visits and an annual premium of about 500 Euro. Since she hadn't taken our names, my wife and I quickly stood, thanked her while she was still talking and skadaddled before she asked any more questions.

We still have the TEAM card to cover us for hospital. We will pick up private insurance to cover incidentals until the PUMA system in France kicks in the next year. That will cover us for 8% tax rate on elible income. Which should be pretty low.

Hi Sergios, Haven't talked for a bit, so best of luck on your move this weekend. And "thank you, thank you very much", for all the advice you so-freely gave while we were doing that same thing last year (and this year). I hope all goes well for you and your wife in France. Cheers, John.

Sergio’s, I too would like to wish you well in your new home in France and thank you for the reliable information and advice you offered so generously through the years. I have benefited greatly through your experience and it contributed significantly to my successful transition from the US to Italy where I live now. Ringrazio e buona fortuna.

Good luck with the move and hopefully you will post on the France forum as well. I look forward to any advice you can provide for our 12 month stay in France September 2019. Also can’t wait to read what you will be eating in France.

Velvet, there is a FB page I belong to called France for Expats. You have to ask to join. It's not as informative as this one but it would be good for you. It's mostly Brits. If you have trouble just PM me.
