I am relocating from South Africa to the Ivory Coast in January 2009 and I am clueless as to how much things cost. What are the basic costs of groceries, cab fares, etc? How much would a can of colddrink be for instance?

Please help.

hi,
As you must know now after some homeworks, the currency used there is called the francs CFA. A little bottle of coke cost 250 cfa wich would be something like 50 cents us dollars. The same little bottle when the contenair is plastic it cost 350 cfa. a cab fare is calculated by fare.. a mile might be something like 10 cents but i warn you , 99% of the driver will try to cheat you > So what we do there is you tell them wher you are going and you bargin to set a price. If you can tell me from the airport where you will go , i am going to suggest you roughly how much you should pay. Anyway from the airport to anywhere in Abidjan never accept to pay more than $ 30. i think that the groceries are expensive but when you will know your way around, it will cost you way much less.If you need more infos , you could email me here: deltamarck@hotmail.com.
Abidjan is a fun place to be, you might like it.
good luck.
