Preparing to move to Abidjan

Hi,

My name is Andre. My company is considering to send me to Abidjan to work. I work on the Telecom sector. I am wondering if anyone could give me a good tip of where to live in Abidjan? Somewhere with an international commuinity preferably. I plan to bring my wife and 2 kids and hope there are others in the community with similar family status.

Your help is very welcome!

Cheers,
Andre from Norway

Hi Andre,

you should not have problems moving to Abidjan. I am Ivorian leaving in London, I suggest you find yourself a place in either Zone 4 or Riviera (1, 2,3) these are the areas where most expatriates reside. take your children and wife and make sure you take then to the institute of hygiene within a week of your arrival for all necessary vaccinations. apart from that no worries, Abidjan is a beautiful place with a lovely seaside in Port-Bouet, Bassam, Assinie, Sans-Pedro...
enjoy yourself

Adelphe...

I concur with what Aldelphino has said as far as housing is concerned. You can also consider Cocody 2 plateaux (8mme , 7mme tranche) as it is a place of preference for the wealthy, gov hot shots and diplomats, so that assures you alottttt of security. It also put you about 8mn from the european style mall and supermarket(Sococe). There's is also one in the zone 4 area (Cape sud). I am an young ivorian male living and working in the USA (Washington DC area) so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me, I'll be glad to answer any questions that you may have.

I am preparing to move to Abidjan as well. I am a US Citizen and currently my company is not represented in the Ivory Coast. Would like some ideas/advice on where to find a job, preferably before I move in November.

Hey there! :)
As a US citizen you may try to apply for job in American Embassy in Abidjan. Here is the link:abidjan.usembassy.gov, they have some vacancies available at the moment. OR you may do a teaching job. Can not advice on schools, it depends on the area you will be living in.
