Hi I have read most of your posts to the forum Toma and Harry Dog(great would love to meet you all). Interesting. I am moving to CI in Jan 2010 to join my husband who has been working here for a year. We are East Africans and the twotimes I have visited I have found Ivoriennes suffocatingly friendly (good but sometimes too much). We live in Rivierra Golf but I would like to subscribe to a gym with aerobics and a few machines which is not quite expensive. I have been a communication manager, any help out htere in getting a job in communications(PR) for a company or even teaching English to get out of the house at least.

Hi Junam! Welcome to Ivory Coast and congratulations on living in such a beautiful area in Abidjan! You are the neighbour of Lesslyann (Harry dog) by the way :) So I dont think you will get bored :) I think Lesslyann has already found a gym somewhere in your area. Unfortunatly, I am living too far from you. I am sure you will get a teaching job, the area of Cocody which is near you is a perfect place for doing this type of job. As for PR, not sure... You need to speak fluent French and have some "important" connections :) Will be very happy to meet you once you are in Abidjan!
Best regards, Tamara

Hi Tamara, Thank you so much for the fast reply I look forward to meeting both of you once I relocate permanently(at least for a year or so) in Abidjan. Just another question, I love reading somuch novels to be precise, anywhere I can get these(in English) in Abidjan? As for the French lessons I love learning in a group but I may be late coming in January!

Dear Julie!
I am not sure whether you will be able to buy any novels in English in Abidjan. There are 3 bookshopes I know about, one is in Plateau, and 2 are in Zone 4. The one which might have some novels in English is in a supermarket called Hayatt. I should check once I am there. The other day I was looking for English textbooks, but no success. I had to order them from British Council in Accra. Maybe something has changed now but not sure. As for the French classes, you can go on the official website of Centre universitaire d'Etudes Francaises www.cuef-ci.info, where is says that the 6 weeks session of French starts on Jan 19th 2010. But the rates will be something like 160.000cfa against 175.000 cfa for the whole year which started in October :( You can easily join the classes and start from whatever level they appoint you to. Anyway, will try and check about the novels. Ah, between, i think the American Embassy has its library and its just next to where you will be living. You can also see on their website http://abidjan.usembassy.gov/irc.html Hope this will help!
Best regards,
Tamara
