Hi all, I'm new in Abidjan and I moved here just last week. Am looking for English speaking people (who are trying to learn French) to hang out with during the day. I am currently living in the Plateau area and am a bit housebound because I don't speak French. It will be nice to get some advice. Please reply to this post. Merci!

Hi Janewong33, I am also new to Abidjan and do not speak French. I am from Australia and don't know anyone accept Tamara who will also probably answer your message. She is lovely and knows so much about Abidjan. I think she is still away but I would love to catch up with you as I am on my own during the day too. My husband is working here. I am living in Cocody, are you in 2 plateau for 4 Plateau???

Hi Harrydog, it will be great to meet up. I'm still very unfamiliar with Abidjan and have only been to the supermarkets. =p I will leave you my number in a private message and then we can catch up. =)

Hello again, I have just found out we are leaving Abidjan on thursday and not returning - very sudden but our time is up. I wish you luck finding some friends here - I have found it very tough. Teaching English during the day is the way to go and I'm told it isn't that difficult to find a job here. Doesn't exactly pay very well but you meet people and it gets you out of the house. Also, there is a big gym in Zone 4 called Calao. It has a nice pool, lots of good equiptment and although it is quite a pretentious place, you may meet some other foreigners who speak English. Good luck

Well Harrydog, thanks for letting me know anyway. Yes it's pretty sudden, but good luck in wherever your next destination is. And thank you for your advice. It's too bad that i can't get to meet you, it would have been nice to talk to other people here. Good luck.

Hi Toma, good to see your message on this board. I'm hoping to meet new people here. I can hardly speak French, although I'm starting my french lessons today. So it would be nice to have some English speaking people to hang out with. I would love to join you in some exercising activities although I haven't run in at least 8 months!

Hey!!! How was your first French class? I am also taking french classes now... So i am sure we will have something to share :) The activity I was talking about might be this upcoming weekend, but no message from the guys yet. As far as know, if you are not in a mood to run you may do walking, thats what I would do... Let's see if something happens this week, its a time of holidays and people might be busy these days. If you would like to meet we can make a plan, I love meeting new people!

Hey! Well I posted here awhile ago and we are now in Abidjan! Whoop! I am 24 and studying through a international university (UNISA) based in South Africa (where I come from). My father has been working here for 2 years and my mom and I have been living in Ghana while he commutes back and forth. But for business now its better to be in Ivory Coast full time so me and my mom have moved :) I have been here for 1 week and am still trying to get used to everything.
Shopping wise its been pretty much Prima and Cap Sut (food shopping is), we live very close to them.
We have a Ivorian lady helping out with the house and the cooking and she has been chatting away at me in french til her heart is content and all I do is smile :) hahaha! She must think I am stupid. :) Hoping to start the French lessons REAL soon.
I went and checked out Calao gym and I think I will sign up, they really have amazing classes so I'm keen.
I think thats all I can say for now, if you want to catch up PM your details and then can take it from there! At the moment I'm just discovering a little bit everyday.
Oh, met a woman from Belgium and her 2 daughters and they are having a tea/coffee meet and greet thing tomoz morning (Wed), apparently this happens every single Wed at a different ladies home and its for English speaking ppl. So I will find out the details and post soon! Keep well!

Hi everyone
I am immigrating to Abidjan beginning of September and I'm so scared!!! My husband is being transferred for work. I will be turning 25 in September and we have been married 4 months.
Can anyone tell me the level of healthcare there? We are planning for a baby once we have settled there.
Also, is it at all possible to work if not french speaking? I am a nurse and midwife
